The Internet of Things (IoT) adds momentum to the collision course between GIS and mainstream technology that started February 8, 2005 when Google maps launched. Modern culture unknowingly viewed GIS data and invoked GIS processing in their everyday life events. In just eleven short years, technology evolved lightyears. In 2007 the iPhone debuted. In 2008 navigation web sites flourished. In 2009 Fitbits latched onto wrists. In 2010 nests glowed in homes.
